One of the students made the comment: "Art is anything that benefits no one but the artist."

Is this true? Does art benefit anyone but the artist? If so, who?

“Art” cannot properly be defined. Once you say art “is” this, or “isn’t” this, someone comes along and creates an engaging and interesting piece of art that defies those limitations.
